Tips for using this resource

  • I have split Psalm 100 into four separate memory verse presentations - they all follow the same format. You might like to learn the entire Psalm from memory, and therefore split it over four weeks. It might be a bit too much to learn in one sitting, depending on the ages of your pupils.

  • Each week, recap the previous verses to encourage your pupils in their memorisation of the Psalm. Make sure parents know what your aim is, so they can encourage their children to recite the verses during the week too.

  • Make sure the PowerPoint presentation is going to work on whichever device you will be using during your lesson. You should double check that the PowerPoint doesn't transition between slides automatically, and only when you click the mouse! Make sure you are familiar with how the PowerPoint works - it's very simple.

  • Start the activity by getting everyone to read the verses out loud,  repeating it a few times until your pupils sound confident.

  • When you think they're ready, move to the next slide, which will remove one set of words (according to their colour). Have your pupils repeat the verse again, seeing how they cope with some of the words missing. If they seem confident, move on to the next slide!

  • Don't worry if you need to go back a slide to remind them of the missing words. We want them to be encouraged and not disheartened if they're finding it difficult to begin with.

  • Eventually, there will be no words on screen, and hopefully everyone will be able to recite the verse from memory (including you!).

  • The final slide has the whole verse on display once again, to help cement it in our minds.

  • If you're using this during a church service, you should encourage the adults to join in at first. When it comes to the blank slide, you could ask the children to repeat the verse on their own before asking the adults to recite it on their own, and see who has learnt it best!
